Recently I caught an NFL films program where an opposing crowd was jeering T.O. (Terrell Owens). Loving every minute of it, T.O. responded enthusiastically to the camera, “They still love to hate me!”
As a senior Pastor for several years leading a very generous Church (over three times the national average in giving per family) I was amazed that even in a generous congregation there are still people who “love to hate giving financially”!
Perhaps it was a lack of Biblical understanding but truthfully it was more likely just anxiety over not having enough.
Whatever the case, I would try to communicate that God didn’t want something from them, He always has something for them!
All it takes is a simple step of faith and miracles could begin to happen!
So many financial miracles in the Bible began with, “what do you have in your hand?” The widow desperate for a miracle of provision and the Prophet says, “What do you have in your house?” Or the disciples asking how do we feed thousands of people and Jesus replies, “what do you have, go and look”
The simple act of letting go of what is in my hand and trusting God with it and when I do, I have experienced God letting go of what is in His hand to care for my needs!
